Delphinus, one of the very first institutions in the world to achieve "Humane ConservationTM"

At Delphinus we made history as one of the pioneer institutions in the world to obtain the “Humane ConservationTM” certification awarded by the American Humane (AH). They are the creators of the label "No animals were harmed during the making of this film" which aims to care for the safety and welfare of animals participating in TV and cinema productions around the world.

This program is aimed at ensuring the welfare and humane treatment of extraordinary, endangered and disappearing species living in zoos and aquariums around the world. So far, only four institutions worldwide have obtained this certificate:

  • Brookfield Zoo (Chicago, EEUU)
  • Shedd Aquarium (Chicago, EEUU)
  • Vancouver Aquarium (Canada)
  • Delphinus (Quintana Roo, Mexico)

The program’s comprehensive standards were created by an independent Scientific Advisory Committee, whose rigorous auditing assessed the following criteria:

  • Animal welfare, animal ethics and conservation community.
  • Captive breeding programs and animal training.
  • Health condition, housing and feeding.
  • Thermoregulation, environmental quality (air, water) and appropriate sound levels.
  • Diseases and mortality rate.
  • Staff knowledge and training.
  • Positive, healthy and humane interactions between animals and handlers.
  • Social interactions between animals and the ability to self-separate..

Social responsibility

During an event held in Washington, D.C., James F. Peddie, president of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the American Humane, stated, “This new Humane Conservation program will serve to help ensure the welfare of millions of animals and help the public to distinguish those institutions that are doing a good job, demonstrating to the public its commitment to providing a high degree of welfare to the animals with whom it works”.
