Frequently Asked Questions about the Interactive Aquarium Cancun

Find quick answers here to plan your visit to the Interactive Aquarium Cancun: hours, accessibility, touch-pool areas, and important considerations if you also want to enjoy a dolphin swim experience.

General information

Do you have access for people with disabilities?

Yes. Our facilities include the necessary adaptations so anyone can enjoy their visit.

Are the hours fixed or do they change?

Our hours are fixed. We’re open Monday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Will I get to be close to the dolphins?

Yes. You can walk across the bridge where you’ll be able to see our dolphins jumping and also see other visitors interacting with them in dolphin swim programs. If you purchased a dolphin swim experience, our dolphins are used to being close to visitors and enjoy it. However, since they are in their own environment, it’s possible they may disappear from view for a moment and then come back to swim alongside you.

Is there any risk in the touch area?

No. The species in our touch area—such as stingrays and echinoderms—are harmless, but it’s important to limit yourself to the guidelines and follow staff instructions.

Dolphin swim

Does aquarium admission include swimming with dolphins?

No. Aquarium admission does not include swimming with dolphins. Dolphin swim programs are a separate activity and must be purchased/reserved separately.

Is it dangerous to swim with dolphins?

As with any animal interaction, dolphins are not aggressive. They are very friendly and curious about humans, so they like to create a bond of friendship and respect.

Is the area where you swim with dolphins deep?

The swim areas at Delphinus dolphinariums have an average depth of 4 meters (about 13 feet). However, they also include shallower areas.

Do I need to know how to swim to participate in a dolphin swim program?

All visitors must wear a life jacket during the interaction. For us, your safety comes first—so with the life jacket, you only need to focus on enjoying the experience.

Do children wear life jackets?

All participants in our programs must wear a life jacket. Delphinus provides life jackets in specific sizes based on each guest’s weight and height.

Requirements, restrictions, and eligibility

What are the restrictions for Aquarium Trek?

Not available for children under 8 years old, pregnant women, and people with heart or lung conditions, asthma, ear conditions, or recent surgeries. It’s important to note that upon arrival, minors will be evaluated to confirm they meet the minimum height and shoulder width requirements. The age guideline is suggested for children due to the equipment’s size and weight: 32 kg (70 lbs) out of the water and 7 kg (15 lbs) underwater.

Can people with disabilities participate in dolphin interactions?

Yes. At Delphinus, we do our best to offer an unforgettable experience to everyone. When making your reservation, it’s very important that you mention your personal requirements so our customer service team can confirm the best option to provide you with safety and comfort during your dolphin program. Please note that a person with any type of disability must always be accompanied by an adult who can assist them during the program.

Is there a minimum age and/or height to participate in a dolphin program?

There is no minimum age; however, anyone participating in our dolphin programs must be at least 3.3 feet (1 m) tall. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult during the swim (both participants must pay for the program).

Can small children enter the facilities?

All children are welcome, but even if an adult is not participating in the program, they must stay with the child at all times. Children can watch and enjoy the dolphins from areas defined specifically for this purpose.

During the experience

Can I feed the dolphins?

No. Our dolphins have a specific balanced diet according to their age, activities, and development. Feeding them in any other way is not allowed, since any food outside their established diet can harm their health.

How is the program time distributed?

Program time includes: a brief explanation of the activities to be performed (out of the water) and the group interaction time (in the water).

Are photos and video taken during my dolphin swim program for sale, or can I use my camera/phone?

For safety reasons and to avoid distracting dolphins, visitors, and trainers, cameras are not allowed in the wet areas. Delphinus has qualified staff and the best photo and video equipment. After your dolphin swim, you’ll be able to purchase the photos and video taken especially for you.

Is there any risk in the touch area?

No. The species in our touch area—such as stingrays and echinoderms—are harmless, but it’s important to limit yourself to the guidelines and follow staff instructions.

Services and facilities

Does the aquarium have lockers, restrooms, and changing areas?

Yes. You’ll find these areas within our facilities, including towels and showers. At Delphinus, we want your time at our dolphinarium to be as pleasant as possible, so we provide what you need for your comfort.

Pricing, promotions, and reservations

Do you offer discounts and special promotions for dolphin swim programs?

Yes. If you buy your program online in advance, you can get exclusive discounts. Also, if you subscribe to our newsletter, you can receive our promotions before anyone else.

Do I need to reserve my dolphin swim in advance?

Yes. Our dolphin swim programs have a limited number of participants, so to secure your spot, we suggest you book in advance—especially if you visit during high season.

Transportation and companions

Do you offer free transportation to the Interactive Aquarium Cancun?

No. Delphinus offers round-trip transportation from hotels in Cancun to the Interactive Aquarium Cancun for an additional charge of $10 USD per reservation. This applies only to dolphin swim activities.

If I book a dolphin swim with Delphinus, can I bring companions?

Yes. Each swimmer may bring only one companion. If you book online, it’s important to add that person in the “companions” field.

How much does transportation cost if I want to bring more than one companion?

Unfortunately, we can’t offer transportation to anyone other than the person participating in the interaction or their companion.

How close will my companion be while I’m swimming?

For safety reasons, companions won’t have access to the dock or wet areas, but they will be able to watch all activities from the designated companions’ area.

Special programs

Do you offer dolphin therapy programs?

No. We do not have that program open to the public. We have collaborated, free of charge and altruistically, with academic and non-profit institutions through the “Dolphin-Assisted Therapy or Intervention” model, in which dolphins and the aquatic environment provide special stimulation for users who are treated by certified external therapists. These therapists reinforce their respective therapies (speech/language, behavioral, motor skills, psychotherapy, etc.) with contact with our dolphins and the aquatic environment. It has been observed empirically that users improve or accelerate the therapeutic process thanks to the stimulation of contact with the dolphin and the aquatic environment. We do not agree with so-called “dolphinotherapy,” where dolphins are brought close to people to produce sounds to supposedly improve or repair brain connections. This model lacks scientific basis, and therefore we do not practice it.
