Axolotls are aquatic salamanders that retain larval characteristics in their adult reproductive state. They have external feathery gills and a tail with fins for swimming. They come in a variety of colors , ranging from dark, speckled greenish brown, and even albino.
It is a species endemic to Mexico and only found in the canals of Xochimilco.
They usually breed from March to June and can lay from 100 to 300 eggs. These hatch between 10 and 14 days later.
